That thought sits in the back of my head every hour that I’m awake.

I feel worse every time I talk to my friends who are working or going off to grad school. What did I do wrong? (What am I doing wrong?) Were my grades too shitty? Was joining a department where a 3.2/4.0 is considered…

I had the same problem when I graduated, with similar grades (seriously, fuck course 9, but that’s another story). It was horrible and I felt poor and there was lots of crying involved. Oh, and this was in addition to getting rejected from 17 medical schools. Eventually, I got a sweet job. It just took longer than I thought it would (it was July before I was making any money). So, don’t give up hope.

To be honest, though… I still feel like a failure. I’m 99% glad that I didn’t get into medical school because research seems great now (I was not a huge fan of my UROP work), but I barely got into OSU graduate school— my “safety school”— and am constantly reminded by my clearly elitist friends that “you’re going to be so much smarter than your peers.” For one, I’m not sure that’s true just because it’s a “state school” and it’s definitely not a positive thing if it turns out to be true.

My point is: Did I squander my chance at an MIT education by not getting straight As, and will end up in second-tier research for the rest of my life, and not actually accomplish anything useful? Because that’s what it feels like. I still HTFP.

so uh.. inspirational words from an MIT grad. At least it was cheaper for undergrad than anywhere else I could have attended (including OSU)?

Autotune Alex Trebeck

I’ve been researching tattoos recently and I came across an entertaining collection of science tattoos, and this is by far the wackiest.

In his acceptance speech he tried to calm the fears of the other 65.3 percent. “No one has to be afraid of the Best Party,” he said, “because it is the best party.
